It is important that learners with intellectual disability have access to the National Curriculum Statement. Teachers are finding it difficult to adapt the curriculum so as to allow for all learners, irrespective of their abilities, to participate in the same lesson.
Currently, the Department of Education is training all Foundation Phase Teachers on the implementation of the New Assessment Policy 2007 and the Reading Strategy 2007.
One of the sessions of the training is devoted to equipping teachers with the knowledge and skills to implement curriculum differentiation in Gr R to Gr 3.
Read the module which is being used at the training and make inputs on strategies that you have developed.
