Is it fair towards the learners to offer Hospitality Studies at a school without the required equipment and/or facilities?

Currently there are numerous schools which are offering the subject without even doing a single practical lesson!!

They expect learners to pass without any practical experience gained.  This is a disgrace, because in this process we are depriving our learners of the right to proper education in a subject!

I agree with your opinion.  The practical part of our subject is SO imporatnt.  We can not afford to neglect or even ignore the fact that some schools get away with the fact that they don't do any practical at all.  Where does all the CASS marks come from?  Why must some learners spend hours and hours in the kitchens, preparing meals, doing restaurant events to accumulate PAT marks when their neighbours can get away without any effort?

Wilma,

-Is it reasonable enough to offer Hospitality Studies as an examination subject knowing that there is not enough of teaching and learning resources/facilities?

-Is it fair towards learners to offer Hospitality Studies at a school without the required equipments and/or facilities?

Sad I don't even want to talk about human resources.  Schools do advance planning and send requisitions to districts/education departments, with regard to needs, depending on the individual school's numbers.  However, when realizing that there would be delays and/or shortage of supply, schools need to augment the departmental supplies. SGBs have the responsibilty of securing sponsorships/donations, and establishing fundraising programmes. The aim being to cover the needs of schools (especially, what is not available)Out there, hopefully! There are many companies that await calls from schools - to provide schools with resources/facilitiesVuka Uzenzele! Schools need to wake up and do things by themselves, creating better life for themselves.  Our learners need to acquire skills from us - how to create things/provide for ourselves.  No spoon feeding!  Hard work, will give us pleasureBeing lazy, will make us slavesFrom what we do, and from what we give, "we will get what we deserve!".Yes Surely!.
