District Based Support Teams

The District-based Support Team is responsible for supporting schools, parents and the community to organise appropriate support for all learners.

District-based Support Teams (DBSTs) are trans-disciplinary teams that have representation from several units in the district, such as ECD, Curriculum, Institutional Development/Education Management and Governance, ABET, Teacher Development and Inclusive Education.

Conceptual and Operational Guidelines for District-based Support Teams outline the role of districts in the implementation of inclusive education.

The role of the DBST in administering the Screening, Identification, Assessment and Support (SIAS) of learners who experience barriers to learning can be found in the Guidelines for DBSTs

How to contact the DBST

Members of the public and parents who want to find out who the contact person in the DBST is, could contact the office of the District Director.

If you would like to contact the Director of the Education District in which your school falls, find the contact number in the Register of District Directors
