It is crucial for teachers to instill lab safety skills right from early stages of learning.  This will prevent all accidents occuring often during Science practical sessions.  Furthermore, acquired safety skills make both teachers and learners confident and creative.  Teachers should demonstrate the correct way of handling lab equipment and chemcals, and how to react if anything goes wrong.

Hi Marriamg! I fully agree with you as a Student at North West University we are taught the do's and dont's in a lab and i find them very handy here are some of them:

-The correct and safe handling of laboratory apparatus by the teacher is an example for the learner at all times

.•Learners must acquire the skill of correctly handling apparatus, naming and the application possibilities.

•Learners must be given laboratory rules to read through and possibly present a signed agreement that they will keep to the rules

.•Learners must not be left unsupervised around apparatus and chemicals.

•It is to the teacher and school’s advantage if the science teacher has done a first aid course.

•The teacher must be familiar with the procedures for the correct handling of apparatus and chemicals.
