I find the ASs extremely vague in terms of the depths to with a section must be taught.  And then others, I have no clue what they are on about.

LO3 AS 8 : Draws and interprets sketches of geometric solids from different perspectives with intention to the preservation of properties.

Frustration isn't the word!

Most of the assessment standards are quite vague its true. But I believe that sometimes we want to find an exact match. I would suggest that you try and break the sentences down. if you read like this. "Draws and interprets sketches of geometric solids from different perspectives with intention to the preservation of properties." it might confuse you. I suggest you break down to this

1) Draws and interprets sketches of geometric solids from different perspectives.

2) with intention to the preservation of properties.

I think and hope this does not change the meaning of the sentences.

As for me I understand assessment standards pretty well and I don't see teaching mathematics as a burdensome. The only thing that we need to do as teachers is when we are at the workshops we should try to take whatever that we are taught seriously. One other thing is that those people who come and address us are not fully informed and it becomes very difficult for us teachers to implement those principles in our schools.

National educational standards are being developed in nearly all subject areas. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics has recently developed standards for mathematics. Their Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics reflect a concern that students in the U.S. are not mathematically literate and often fail to see the relationship between mathematics learned in school and real-life situations.

I just hope that the students will appreciate math in real life situation so that they can use it in their lives
