Schools in the UK have introduced an exciting way of promoting Geography in schools. They have done this through formation of Geography Ambassadors in schools. The ambassadors become the geography role models to inspire and enthuse other learners to choose the subjectat option time. They engage in lively presentations on all aspects of studying geography and career options. These learners gain valuable personal development skills and experience that builds their confidence by encouraging the next generation to study geography. This is a brilliant idea I brought along to share with my colleagues in SA to advance and promote our lovely subject, Geography!

The introduction of GIS in the Geography FET curriculum has been a major breakthrough in the history of education in the country. This section of the content is going to offer creative ways of learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. Learners will be taught skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication and computer literacy. These skills are relevant to the world of work which must be able to absorb our learners.

Despite the challenges of skilled teachers in this area and lack of hardware and software; we must be excited that our learners will be exposed to the theoretical content in the meantime. Let us also seek opportunities of establishing some links with the private sector in contributing towards the upliftment of our communities. Some of these private companies are willing to offer hardware or software or any kind of help; depending on the school's needs.
