Life Orientation seeks to provide learners with opportunities to make informed choices pertaining to personal and environment health. It also develops beneficial social interactions, such as respecting the rights and values of our fellow man. It furthermore develops self-image, teaches self-motivation and how to apply goal - setting strategies.
It also offers opportunities to participate in a variety of meaningful vigorous physical activities offered in a well-planned physical education programme.
In the Senior Phase (Grades 7 – 9) this learning area adds an outcome which offers learners to develop to their full potential, by making informed choices with regard to their chosen career fields, developing their interests and abilities, planning future careers and study opportunities.
As a compass leads a traveler to find his/her way to a chosen destination, this compulsory Learning Area – Life Orientation - endeavours to lead learners to use their skills and their talents to reach their full potential. They are being prepared to continue with this subject into Grade 10 as it outlines a plan for their own lifelong learning.
