Schools in the UK have introduced an exciting way of promoting Geography in schools. They have done this through formation of Geography Ambassadors in schools. The ambassadors become the geography role models to inspire and enthuse other learners to choose the subjectat option time. They engage in lively presentations on all aspects of studying geography and career options. These learners gain valuable personal development skills and experience that builds their confidence by encouraging the next generation to study geography. This is a brilliant idea I brought along to share with my colleagues in SA to advance and promote our lovely subject, Geography!

Re: Exploring Geography Blog Dear colleagues...As a developing country, we need the study of GIS, in our schools, to develop our learners future in the learning area Geography. We the young and vibrant teachers must take the initiative to upgrade and make this learning area lively and enjoyable to our learners. What's your take on that?

Re: Exploring Geography Blog As one of the GIS analysts Im supporting the teaching of GIS in our schools, our learners should be able to explore the world using the system.

Re: Exploring Geography Blog I agree that as teachers we should take the initiative to upgrade and make the learning area enjoyable but we need the resources to do that. Ithink the governmemt should help us on that note.

Re: Exploring Geography Blog In deed the government should take the initiative aswell, how does one learns GIS without software access such as Arcview and others?

it is an interesting story
Re: Exploring Geography Blog It is very difficult for learners to understand GIS as most schools don't have an access to the software. Even I had a problem with GIS until we went through the practicals.

Re: Exploring Geography Blog What an exciting year, we have completed training of subject advisors in the reviewed curriculum; NCS Grades R-12. I hope Grade 12 training is going well in various provinces. Kindly share with us your experiences of the CAPS training in your provinces. Please remember that CAPS is part of NCS Grades R-12.
