This is very, very important. My learner's marks (90 Grade 12s) for the prac paper are between 194/200 and 48/200, average 67%

It is very clear that the learners who work consistently and who practise/revise their skills are the ones scoring 80% plus. It was very evident from invigilating who would do well in the paper and who would not simply by observing the way in which the learner worked.

It is very interesting to look at the papers from different provinces, what they have in common and how they differ - all working off the same content framework.

Some of the questions in the KZN Paper 2 are not quite for CAT learners (e.g. 1.8, 3.8) - more IT type of questions, I would say. I cannot find that content in the CAT content framework, unless I misinterpret.

Writing exams is a skill and should be practiced. What I normally do: I arrange one afternoon each term (3 hour session). Then I give my learners a Grade 12 prac paper to do under exam conditions (e.g. exemplar paper, but now I will also use some of the papers uploaded here - THANK YOU!)

This is a good practice run and also serves as a diagnostic tool to expose the shortcommings as any 200 mark paper pretty much covers all the skills outlined in the content framework. Afterwards I give learners the marksheet and let them mark each other's paper from screen. Then they work trough all the skills again.

The advise given here is very good. The problem is that we do not have many papers to give to our learners as CAT is a new subject. When will the other links be active? We need the papers so that our learners can practice. Thank you for those who share with us. We do not have many resources and this is very helpful

I do agree with Lindiwe - this is good advice and papers are a problem. However, the textbook (Study Opportunities) I am using has a whole module with very good practical and theory questions for learners to practice.

Annie is quite right. As a matter of fact, I see that the Free State practical paper comes from that module in that textbook, though a modified version. My learners are finalising their PAT and are doing the exercises in that module at the same time. They are really getting a lot of practice for the exams and are building confidence.

Unfortunately the KZN papers are not available in Afrikaans.

I really like what Marie is doing. That is a very good example of informal assessment (assessment FOR learning) and how one can use peer assessment in a meaningful way. The teacher will, however, have to manage it properly. And as she says, it also has a diagnostic underpin so that learners can see which skills they still have to practice. If one does not have an afternoon, one can even "break the paper up" and give it to them question by question during class time.

I find it interesting that we are using different papers from different provinces for practice. This realy help my student doing exercises which help them consolidate their PAT.

The Western Cape do not have a June paper. It seems that the schools wrote the papers from Study Opportunities.

Thanks for the papers from kwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo I will put them in good use. Cat is new subject for me I'm still struggling but i'm getting there. I still need a test on spreadheet for September. I would like to know how many marks must we allocate the formulas in spreadsheet

You could always extract the spreadsheet question(s) from an exam paper and use that as a test, providing that it covers the content that you want to assess.

Practical exams are always stressful for teachers and learners.

It is unlike any other exam. In doing a practical test on the computer, the learner gets immediate feedback that tells him/her that an answer could be incorrect. This stresses them out and some are then wasting time to try and get it right on something that may not count a lot of marks in stead of moving onto the next question and come back at a later stage when they have some time left. This is one of the factors that causes many learners not to complete a practical exam in time.
